Slow Cooker Chicken

Whole slow cooked chicken flavoured with herbs and spices.

  • 1 Slow Cooker


  • 1 whole chicken organic if possible
  • 1/2 cup butter flavoured with herbs and spices
  • 1 drizzle olive oil
  • 1 whole lemon
  • 2 whole onions peeled and halved
  • 1 tbsp salt himalayan rock salt


  • Set slow cooker on high
  • blend herbs of choice with butter
  • loosen skin from breast, taking care to keep it intact
  • stuff the butter and herb mix under the breast skin
  • put the lemon inside the chicken's cavity
  • drizzle oil all over the chicken
  • rub salt and additional herbs over the outside of the chicken (i.e. a BBQ mix of paprika ect)
  • place onion halves into the base of the slow cooker and place the chicken on top
  • cook for 3-4 hours on high or until cooked


When the chicken is cooked the meat will start to fall away from the bone. If you are unsure, use a thermometer at the thickest part to check it has reached 75 degrees.
